Senior AWS Migration Architect

Greenbelt, MD

Our client is seeking a remote Senior AWS Migration Architect to lead the design and implementation of complex cloud migration and modernization initiatives across enterprise environments.

This is a senior, hands-on architecture role for someone who has successfully planned and executed large-scale migrations into AWS. You will assess existing environments, develop migration strategies and wave plans, design secure and scalable target architectures, and guide workloads from discovery through migration, modernization, and operational transition.

The right candidate brings deep AWS expertise along with strong knowledge of application migration, infrastructure, networking, security, automation, and cloud financial optimization. You should be comfortable serving as a technical authority while also working directly with customers, development teams, operations teams, and other stakeholders to turn business and technical requirements into practical cloud solutions.

Success in this role means delivering secure, resilient, cost-effective AWS environments while reducing migration risk, improving operational performance, and creating a clear path for continued cloud modernization.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the assessment, planning, architecture, and implementation of enterprise AWS migration and modernization initiatives.
  • Evaluate existing on-premises and hybrid environments and develop migration strategies, modernization roadmaps, and target-state architectures.
  • Use AWS migration technologies such as AWS Migration Hub, AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) to support application and database migrations.
  • Develop migration wave plans based on application dependencies, technical requirements, risk, sequencing, and business priorities.
  • Perform discovery and dependency analysis across applications, infrastructure, databases, networking, and supporting services.
  • Design secure, scalable, highly available AWS architectures supporting IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and cloud-native workloads.
  • Architect hybrid and fully cloud-hosted solutions with appropriate networking, connectivity, availability, resiliency, and disaster-recovery patterns.
  • Automate cloud provisioning and migration activities using Infrastructure as Code and scripting technologies.
  • Collaborate with software and operations teams to modernize applications using containers, serverless technologies, and other cloud-native services.
  • Ensure cloud security, governance, and compliance requirements are addressed throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Design and implement AWS networking, IAM, security, and governance controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cloud performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Recommend resource rightsizing, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and other AWS optimization strategies.
  • Troubleshoot complex cloud architecture, migration, networking, security, and deployment issues.
  • Develop technical designs, migration runbooks, implementation plans, operational procedures, and support documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and other team members throughout migration and modernization efforts.
  • Work directly with customers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into viable cloud architecture and migration approaches.
  • Evaluate technical risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Support the transition of migrated workloads into stable production operations.

  • Significant hands-on experience designing and deploying enterprise cloud solutions in AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting large-scale application and infrastructure migrations to AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Migration Hub, AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), and/or AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
  • Experience developing migration wave plans, performing discovery, and identifying application and infrastructure dependencies.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS architecture, networking, IAM, security, governance, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience designing highly available, resilient, and scalable cloud solutions.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automated cloud provisioning.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages used for cloud automation.
  • Experience with hybrid-cloud architecture and connectivity.
  • Strong understanding of load balancing, VPNs, content delivery, high availability, and geo-redundancy.

  • Experience with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or comparable Infrastructure as Code platforms.
  • Experience designing cloud environments subject to formal security, compliance, or governance requirements.
  • Experience working across AWS, Azure, GCP, or hybrid multi-cloud environments.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
